Thanks for putting this site together. I’m personally hoping that our community decides to get involved in the election voting process a bit more this time round. If you don’t vote, you don’t have a voice in all the things that make our community work – taxes, roads, schools and all that other infrastructure stuff!
Hoping that the school board candidates are also going to have an all candidates evening or two. Most people don’t even realize that the school budget is double (or more) than that of the city & the people we are voting into those positions play an integral role in our school system.
How many parents out there, in our rural communities, are paying for the busing their students need to get to their school? Would you like to see that changed? If so, then look at who is running, ask them what their stand is on this issue and vote for those people you think will look at all the options available to have our schools run well and within budget.
Hello Cora,
This year we are focusing solely on the Mayoral and Councillor candidates. However, we may look to include School Board with our next campaign.
Thanks for the comments!
Thank you for putting together this site. I really hope that all the candidates use the opportunity you have given them here. My husband and I have always voted both federally and provincially from the time we were old enough too. We have even been taking our young children to the last couple and explaining to them the importance of voting. We want them to be aware of the freedoms many died for and the importance of being part of the process of democracy. The strange thing is that in all these years we have never voted in a municipal election. We have lived in a few communities and at times been aware peripherally of the upcoming municipal election but there was never an easy way to find out about the issues and candidates. Frankly it always seemed that the election would go by and we wouldn’t even realize it until it was too late. When I found this site through the local newspaper article I bookmarked it right aways. Now that all the candidates are declared I hope to see a lot more information about the issues and I am really looking forward to the candidate interviews. We are going to make a concerted effort to get out and vote this year as well as take the children so they can see the municipal process and its importance. Where else can we find information on the election issues, like pamphlets or something that the candidates make available showing their platform. Will the candidates have their own websites? If so how do we find them? Also where do we find the school board candidates information?
Thank you once again to all the volunteers for your effort, we are already more informed this year then we ever have been and can’t wait to see the videos.
Shannon,
The “Bio” section will be launched this week. If there is a link to a website for the candidate, we will be including it.
As for information on school board candidates, this seems to be the only spot to find information aside from Google: http://www.chilliwack.com/main/page.cfm?id=343
Keep checking it for more updated info.
*Bios & video interviews of candidates will be posted next week but here are the hopefuls at this date.
